Our Product Setup

Our study involved designing a set of three dies of increasing curvatures to deform the flat ceramic sample at three levels. Due to the dome shape of the die, an uneven deformation will occur even within the sample where the center will undergo larger deformation than the outside of the sample. We characterized the sample before and after the deformation process by employing scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-Ray diffraction (XRD), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to understand any changes in microstructure and electrical properties as a result of the superplastic deformation.

Below shows the deformation process of what will be done on the ceramic under the dies.

The dies being used are made of Inconel, and the image below shows the before and after of deforming the ceramic.
